2021年にThe Blend Innという”ホテル”からBlend Studioという”スタジオ”にコンバージョンした本建物。
この空間の新しい使い方として、今年度よりBlend×YOMAFIG.の企画展「RELATIONS」シリーズを開催致します。
第一回目となるRELATIONSは、ガラス彫刻作家 大東真也さんをお招きしての展示。大東さんの作品は何れも既成のガラス瓶を窯で熱して制作されます。
「窯」という空間を通ることで、そのガラス瓶は”ガラス瓶ではない他のもの”に生まれ変わります。大東さんによると、この生まれ変わりは「必然的なもの」であると同時に、生まれ変わるタイミングや形については作者の意図を超えた「偶然的なもの」です。
必然と偶然を受容したガラス瓶たちからは、ガラスや器という素材が本来持っている魅力がよりはっきりと感じられます。
初めての緊急事態宣言から一年を迎える今日。「必然的な事だが偶然的な運命」と題された本展は、奇しくも新型コロナの影響が直撃したThe Blend Innというホテルが、スタジオというアートの場となった運命とも重なります。
”ガラス瓶が生まれ変わった作品”を”ホテルが生まれ変わった空間”で鑑賞する本展。皆様とともに偶然と必然について再考する機会となれば幸いです。

Our building was converted from a hotel “The Blend Inn” to a studio “Blend Studio” in 2021. As a new way to use this special space, Blend x YOMAFIG. will hold a new series of exhibitions called “RELATIONS”.
For the first RELATIONS exhibition, we invited glass sculptor Masaya Daito. All of his works are created by heating ready-made glass bottles in a kiln.
By passing through the space of the kiln, the glass bottle is reborn as “something else that is not a glass bottle. According to Masaya Daito, this rebirth is “inevitable,” but at the same time, the timing and shape of the rebirth is “accidental,” beyond the intention of the artist.
In the glass bottles that embrace both inevitability and coincidence, the inherent appeal of the material of glass and vessels can be felt more clearly.
Today marks the one year anniversary of the first emergency declaration in Japan. The exhibition, titled “Inevitable but coincidental fate,” coincides with the fate of The Blend Inn, a hotel that was hit by Covid-19 and became an art based studio.
“In this exhibition, you will be able to see “a glass bottle reborn as a work of art” in a “hotel reborn as a space. We hope this exhibition will be an opportunity for you to reconsider coincidence and necessity.
